Online Tutorial: DIY Kazoo
Join Clayton our Americorp MakerSpace Coordinator to learn how to make a DIY Kazoo! Clayton explains and demonstrates the simple steps to making your very own musical instrument. Before you begin you’ll need to gather necessary supplies, all you need is: scissors, a straw, 2 popsicle sticks, and 3 rubber bands – 1 large rubber band and 2 thin rubber bands.
To play the kazoo you hum, rather than blow, into the flattened side of the instrument. The oscillating air pressure of the hum makes the kazoo’s membrane vibrate. The resulting sound varies in pitch and loudness with your humming. You can make different sounds by singing different syllables. Try humming doo, too, who, rrrr or brrr into your kazoo and listen to the difference. What other sounds can you make? Be sure to share a photo of your kazoo with us in the YouTube comments section. We can’t wait to see what you made!
