Curiosities from the Museum: Iron Spider – 6/26/2024

Over the years at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, there have been some odd and strange things that have been donated to the collection. While currently there is a screening process and procedures in place for donating items, this wasn’t always the case. We occasionally find oddities lying around from years gone by with little or no explanations

While startling to find in our dark basement archives room at first, this piece is not actually the giant spider of my nightmares. It is however, an insect made out of a railroad tie and horseshoes.

While the artist of this piece is unknown, as well as how it ended up at the museum, we love the creative use of what would have been scrap metal materials that were recycled to form this art piece of sorts.
